Build your own personal deck and compete to see whose cards and strategy will come out on top. These games often require you to buy card packs and build your own deck with them. We have some ready-made decks of many of the popular games to try out of you want to loan a deck.
Tile and Dice Placement Games
Why compete against your friends when you can all lose together! It is everyone against the game either everyone claims victory or nobody does. Everyone gets a role in the team and you will all have to collaborate to come out on top. There are no secrets in the team and you will have to effectively communicate to do well.
There isn't really much skill to these ones. It is just a bit chilled out, and often drunken, fun! Compete for bragging rights as you try to play for laughs while reading the tone of the room
Bluffing/Social Deduction Games
Be selective with the truth to throw everyone off the scent. Interrogate your fellow players and spot their contradictions. Call them out on their dodgy behaviour and don't trust a single word of it.
One wrong move will spell disaster! Better not shake the table unless that is part of the game of course. Build a tower or place pieces with the utmost care or you will find yourself down and out
The rich get even richer. The more you buy the greater your income. Everyone starts with nothing and tries to snowball an empire by buying more and more valuable investments. Do you have the ruthless strategy to buy your way to victory?
How is your sense of direction? Do you like to push your luck for the chance at more treasure? Do you have what it takes to fight monsters or will you be running for your life? Exploration games allow you to roam an area; often completing objectives; to be the best adventurer, or win as a team.
You are about to have a shed load of information thrown your way. How much of it can you remember? Can you piece it all together before anyone else?
Are you a wheeler and dealer? Can you make deals and forge alliances to get ahead? Are you a shameless backstabber? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you may just be the kind of awful person we need for a game like this. We are all pretending we are working together, but let's be honest, only one of us can win here.
Route building and territory building games involve taking control over space on a map while suppressing your opponents. Route building games such as Ticket to Ride involve building routes between locations to score points. Territory games such as Go involve walling off your opponent to dominate the board. Games like Carcassonne and Catan involve using resources to build a presence on the map
Combat Strategy games involve defeating your opponent in battle. What differentiates these types of games from territory games is that the territory is dynamically changing hands instead of being quite rigid. Games like Root and Risk are good examples of territory combat. Some games like Chess, Dragon Prince and Warhammer involve battling with peices and/or miniatures to emininate your opponents. Other examples, like battleship, use deduction in combat.
Can you keep up the pace? Do you have the need for speed? Racing games are won by getting to the finish space before anyone else. Games like Wacky Races or Flamme Rouge are good examples. Games like Snakes and Ladders fall under this category too.
How are you with language? How is your spelling? What are words again? These types of games are big on communication and your knowledge of language. They can range from a relaxing but strategic game of Scrabble, to being under pressure in a group trying to talk your way through Articulate.
Do you fancy yourself to be a bit of a pub quiz champion? Do you have some super specialist knowledge that you want to show off? Trivia games could be for you! You can test out your general knowledge or knowledge of your favourite subjects with a game of trivial pursuit. You can sit in the hotseat of your favourite TV game show, or you can see if you can just be the best guesser in games like More or Less.
